2008 Quilt

"The Quilt of many colors"

 In the Beginning!

The Praying Hands Quilting Circle began in the Winter of 2007.  Some ladies wanted to learn to quilt, but had no idea how to begin.

Nancy Hoffman, an experienced quilter offered to teach a few of us how to make a quilt.  Nancy told us what we needed to get started. The ladies set off on a shopping spree to buy fabric, needles, pins, thread and many little extra's.

We met the second Monday of the month, during the cold winter to "make a quilt".  What a grand time we had measuring & cutting fabric to make our very first quilt. (we each started one).  The quilt we made (or some of us still making) is called "Country Spirit".  It is a really beautiful quilt with rail fence block and Star corner stones. (that is quilting talk).  We worked real hard (when we weren't laughing and having a wonderful time).  Then it was time to get the sewing machines going.  What an experience, trying to get those corners just right so they would meet and look great.  We just love learning (did I say that?)

We took the summer off  because we have so much work to do in the summer, planting flowers weeding etc. (well some of us do, others kept right on working on the quilt).  We started quilting again in the winter of 2008.  We did not get back to our "Country Spirit" quilt, because we were asked if we would make a quilt for Habitat, to be auctioned off to raise money for Habitat.  We were excited to make a quilt for them, what an "honor".  Nancy brought in a lovely pattern and it was really easy, we each took home blocks to sew together.  At the next meeting we brought the blocks back to class and laid them out on the table to assemble the pattern we wanted to use.  This was so much fun, we all had ideas and we kept moving those block around.  Finally we had it just the way we wanted it to look.  Nancy, "God Bless her" took all those little patches home and sewed them together.  Then we took the quilt to Carol Marques to have it machine quilted.  It is beautiful, you can judge for yourself, below are pictures.

The auction was held October 25, 2008
"Duncannon Presbyterian Church Habitat Quilt".
As a special bonus, Nancy made a little pillow to match the quilt.
(all proceeds from this auction go to Habitat, to help with the building of homes in the Newport area)

David DeWhitt had the high bid, and is now the proud owner of the quilt.
